A dad’s impact on the fitness of his kids
Growing up, my dad woke up at 4a-4:30am. Read his Bible. Prayed for us.
Then hit the home gym.
And went to work.
I never once heard him complain about exercise as a kid.
Ever.
He never forced exercise on us. Never made us go to the gym. He never had to.
His example was potent.
I never appreciated his example until I became a dad in 2018.
I gained 40 pounds, my eating was out of control, and my exercise routine was shaky.
But his example reminded me it was possible.
If you’re a dad, you have an amazing opportunity to model health for your kids.
This opportunity can be wasted. But it doesn’t have to be.
Fitness is part of stewardship. And kids are watching.
What an amazing opportunity God has given us.
Happy Father’s day.
ps. when my dad retired, he became one of my first fitness clients.
He told me he had gotten lazy in retirement.
A reminder that no one does this perfectly.
Even the best of us.

I’ve shifted away from Fitbit & Garmin. I don’t want mountains of health data.
I just want a few simple health habits.
And something to track my steps.
I’ve gone back to G-Shock pedometer watch, and I love it.
It can deal with 3 young kids climbing all over it with no problem.

Kettlebell front squats get the abs involved in the squat.
Especially when you only use one kettlebell.
Here’s my 87 second explanation on how to do them.
Never skip leg day… and never waste an opportunity to get the core involved.
